Macquarie Legal Centre with funding from Holroyd City Council is running legal workhops for young people in the Holroyd Local Government Area.
Workshops in Parramatta and Auburn Local Government Area will soon be rolled out.
The format of the workshop includes 3 short plays about day to day events in young people's lives which lead to brushes with criminal law and the police. Each scenario is followed by a presentation from our Youth Legal Educator on the legal issues presented in the scenarios.
The aim of the workshops is to encourage young people to think about the legal implication of their actions whilst learning about their rights and responsibilities around drink driving, bullying, stealing, and police arrest amongst others.
A series of workshops based on the contents of the Youth Justice Book are schedule for the second half of this year. Keep an eye on this space for more information.
If you are interested in these workshops or require any other training on legal topics that affect young people, contact our Youth Legal Educator on (02) 8833 0994 or macquarie_nsw@clc.net.au.
The Youth Justice Playing Cards are a popular and successful way of imparting basic legal information to young people. Each playing card contains a legal tip or information about legal or youth services.
Tips cover such issues surrounding contracts, debts, drugs, alcohol, robbery, assault and police powers.
The Youth Justice Playing Cards were initially produced with a grant from the National Community Crime Prevention Programme (an Australian Government initiative) and the Law and Justice Foundation.
The first edition cards were distributed through schools, disability rights organisations, Links to Learning programs, youth centres, youth services, support and mentoring organisations and juvenile justice centres.
Funding from the Law and Justice Foundation has permitted MLC to produce and print a revised and updated second edition of the cards.
The updated second edition of the Youth Justice Cards is now available
