Youth Education Project

........................
.................................................

The Youth Education Project (YEP) provides legal training and resources for youth workers, welfare workers, social workers, teachers and others who work to support young people.

The YEP:

  • Runs regular training sessions and workshops on legal topics which affect young people. The core focus is on juvenile justice and criminal law issues such as police powers in public space, police interviews, police powers of search, arrest and detention, children's court and youth justice conferences.
  • Produces legal educational materials, including a major publication "Youth Justice: Your Guide to Cops and Court" and factsheets.
  • Supports youth services with legal information. We are able to provide telephone support to youth or related services who have any queries about the law or legal services.
  • Supports the Children's Court Assistance Scheme and other schemes which make up the state-wide Children's Court Assistance Program, through training and recruitment support.

The Youth Education Program aims to educate youth workers and advocates about the rights of young people who come into contact with the criminal justice system or any other aspects of the law. This will enable them to better assist and advocate for their clients when dealing with the Police, the Children's Court or any other facet of the system, therefore improving access to justice for young people.

If you have had an experience (either good or bad) with the police, Transit Officers or security guards that you would like to share please go to goodcopbadcop where you can tell other young people about your experience and learn from theirs.
